Trend Cubes is a fun and interactive design tool created to help both design and marketing teams create visions of what the future may hold based on current trends.
Digging Deep
I first started off by digging a little deeper into myself to see who I am as a designer. Mind maps are a favorite tool of mine that helps me visually accumulate my thoughts and allows me to share with others as well. Here I’ve found my passion for application of research.
Trend Collision
Talking with my mentor about my passion to apply research in design, he taught me a design tool that allows me to forecast the future based on current trends. By drawing a table graph with multiple trends, a possible story can occur as two trends collide.
Transforming from 2D to 3D
Seeing the table graph, I noticed it was possible to take this design tool from the wall and put onto a table where multiple people can take a part in. I then decided to make an interactive experience out of this.
List of Current Trends
Based on my daily research, I’ve accumulated a list of 140+ current trends that will take part in how our future will occur. By applying them onto every face of a cube, I way able to develop a randomized interactive system that changes with every roll.
Trend Cubes
From 2D to 3D, I’ve created Trend Cubes as a fun and interactive tool that allows players to create hypothetical narratives and futures. By simply rolling two or more cubes, players can challenge themself and others.
Play as a team or on your own
Trend cubes can be used to stimulate a team of designers for their projects together, or it can be used to challenge oneself as well. However, it is much more fun with more people.
Endless possibilities
Although there are 20,736 possible roll outcomes, there are endless possibilities since everyone creates their own unique narrative future.
